A Roaring Waterfall Wrapped in Coffee and Greenery
Overview
Just 8 km from Madikeri, Abbey Falls is one of the most visited and photographed waterfalls in Karnataka. Surrounded by coffee estates, pepper vines, and thick forest, this 70-foot waterfall plunges dramatically into a rocky pool, creating a thundering sound and cool spray that draws visitors throughout the year.
Why Visit
- Easy to access, even for families and casual travellers
- One of the few falls set within a working coffee plantation, adding to the charm
- A favourite monsoon and winter getaway from Coorg’s central town of Madikeri
Though often busy, especially during holidays, the setting is undeniably beautiful and worth a quick detour.
How to Reach Abbey Falls
Abbey Falls is well connected by road from Madikeri, with a dedicated parking area. From the entrance, it’s a 5–10 minute walk through coffee plantations and well-paved steps to the viewpoint bridge across the gorge.
Note: Visitors are not allowed to enter the water for safety reasons, but there are several excellent viewing points.
Best Time to Visit
July to December is ideal for witnessing the falls in full flow, especially post-monsoon. Early mornings offer better light for photos and fewer crowds.
