Paddle Through the Wild Heart of the Cauvery
Tucked inside the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, the Galibore Nature Camp and Cauvery Fishing Camp near Mekedatu offer some of the most peaceful and scenic kayaking experiences in Karnataka. Here, the river flows gently, winding through forested banks where wildlife roams freely and silence is part of the charm.
What to expect while kayaking
The kayaking experience in this region is all about tranquillity and closeness to nature. With slow-moving currents, wide river bends, and crystal-clear waters, it’s an ideal setting for recreational paddling. First-time kayakers will feel at ease, and those with experience will enjoy the long, uninterrupted stretches.
As you paddle, you may spot kingfishers, herons, monitor lizards, or even otters playing near the shore. The camps encourage eco-friendly water activities, so you won’t find noisy motors. They are just the gentle rhythm of paddles and the flow of the river.
Where the kayaking happens
Kayaking is conducted along the Cauvery River stretch between Bheemeshwari and Galibore, with starting points based at the Galibore Nature Camp and Cauvery Fishing Camp (operated by Jungle Lodges & Resorts). These camps follow strict safety practices and offer full guidance, making it suitable for all age groups.
The best season to visit is October to March, when the river is calm and the surrounding forest is alive with birdsong.
Other activities to enjoy in the area
After kayaking, enjoy coracle rides, guided nature walks, angling (catch-and-release only), and wildlife watching. With no mobile signal and limited connectivity, Galibore offers a refreshing digital detox. It is a perfect getaway for those who want to slow down and breathe with nature.
