Introduction
Kombat is a martial folk dance native to the Kodava community of Kodagu (Coorg). Dancers use deer horns as props, imitating battle maneuvers and celebrating physical prowess and tradition.

This ritual dance has historic roots in warrior rites and communal festivals, performed in Kodagu’s temples and during village gatherings. It honors ancestral martial culture and religious symbolism.
The Troupe
Usually performed by male dancers armed with decorated deer horns, wearing traditional Kodava attire. The troupe can range from small groups to larger ensembles during major festivals.
The Performance
Dancers move in circular or paired formations, mimicking duels and martial displays. Rhythmic drumming and tribal chants add to the intensity and celebratory spirit.
Where to witness
Mainly in Kodagu district temples and local Coorgi festivals, particularly during ancestral celebrations.
